As I prepare for Christmas giving, I began to think about those that mean so much to me. I stopped for a moment to consider what I have given them over the years. I realized while I gave awesome gifts I have never given anything sentimental. My gifts had been predominately clothes, shoes, perfume, and cologne. These are all things that could be used up and discarded. Here are my 3 tips for meaningful gift giving.
In light of everything going on the world these days, I chose to give sentimental gifts this year. I thought if this is the last Christmas, God forbid, what would I have left them with in addition to the memories.
I want my gift giving to have lasting meaning.
Gifts act as a way of communicating a feeling to another person. They should be given and received meaningfully, rather than blindly, because relationships matter. Often the messages our gifts send are misinterpreted because not enough care was given to selecting a gift that would communicate the intended message.
When we give gifts, they should be for the sake of the other person. Not for inflating our own ego, gaining power, status, placing others in our debt, or influencing someone else unduly.

I couldn’t help but think of my brides and grooms when it comes to gift giving. Asking someone to participate in your wedding as part of your wedding party is a huge honor that requires serious consideration. When your invitation to participate is accepted it is not only an honor for the participant but requires a financial commitment for things like attire and shoes. As the inviter, you want to be sure to show your appreciation. You would want to give something sentimental. A few ideas include personalized flasks for the gentlemen and silk robes for the ladies. At the end of the day, everyone has invested time, energy, and effort to make your wedding day perfect. You know your friends and family better than anyone so make your gifts meaningful. It shows your gratitude.
